Devil, Angel, and God

“...When you think about it, most of the good ideas came along to make sin a whole lot easier...”

Hi...
Despite of the heartwrenching trouble comes upon me, I thought writing is another form of best distraction for now, beside reading. I already finished my last reading session with HORNS, written painfully beautiful by Joe Hill, the next gen of creep.

So why do I put Crowley and Aziraphale there?
Nah, I just love them both. GOOD OMENS, the book and the series are brilliant. The philosophical terms about Angel and Demon cooperate together in preventing the armageddon in a hillarious way. The thing you wouldn't want to miss.

Humans are selfishly accusing devils of their daily actions. Then we beg for mercy from God, easily, throw our reasons as devil's plots. Devils are taking the responsibilities upon our doings. Day by day for over thousand years. Sure they're humbly accepting our accusations. Until one day, they'll turn their own power upon us. Simply. We made them.

Ignatius William Perrish, a.k.a Ig, a man with happy life, happy future plan, turns into the Devil when something brutally terrible happened to his love life, Merrin. Merrin was murdered in the woods, raped, mysteriously left alone naked and dead. Ig was accused, but not enough evidence there to proof the truth. A year later, on a bright morning, Ig wake up and find a pair of horns growing out from his frontal skull.

The horns show him the ugly disgusting truths from everyone that he meet. They're easily exposing their deepest secrets to him. The dirty talk from the doctor he checks the horns to, the nurses, the priests, the nuns, the police, even his family, who really hate him and accuse him in Merrin's death, except Terry, his brother who keep the truth behind the murder. Then the truth hits Ig hard. All the lies, the craziest doings, the disgusting mind of humans, even the Devil couldn't contain.

HORNS shows a tangled tales about love and our deepest desires. Devil looks like being the hero for its own purposes, human is the total mess, Angel is the foolish selfish one, and God is just staying there, watching. The re-definition of these familiar terms come in a brutal way, even I said some s*it multiple times during reading this book.

Movie adaptation couple years ago, not sure I will watch it or not

HORNS is a dark fairytale. It consists of multiple layer of love and hate, ignorance and bliss, even the not so lovely happy ending that every Disney's style wants to. Hill wrote mercilessly. Punching your consciousness many times. And make me thing, why on earth we accuse Devils for our own desires and sins?

HORNS shows the naked truth, the misscommunication, the roles of Devil, Angel, and God in unusual way. This story just pokes the heart and mind. And this also makes me think, the power held by author to write any stories, the fruits of creativity, and the layers of ideas representing human. Well, it's fascinating.

HORNS is an adult tale, recommended for ones who love dark stories, a bit sprinkle of philosophy, and of course the thriller and drama (not in nauseating way). Hill packed fantasy, deep thoughts, (even blasphemy?) and some fun into his works. Well, I've read THE HEART-SHAPED BOX and it freaked me out. And HORNS got me thinking in a bit different way. But sure, I'd love to read another Hill's works.

So, wanna bring out the devil in you?

“...God saves - but not now, and not here. His salvation is on layaway. Like all grifters, He asks you to pay now and take it on faith that you will receive later. Whereas women offer a different sort of salvation, more immediate and fulfilling. They don't put off their love for a distant, ill-defined eternity but make a gift of it in the here and now, frequently to those who deserve it least. So it was in my case. So it is for many. The devil and woman have been allies against God from the beginning...”
